Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending has become a more and more common investment option, offering very good returns, especially if you compare it to your savingsaccount. We started in 2017/2018 with Peer to peer lending. It was around that time that multiple companies either started and that P2P started to get more attention.
Here an overview of our personal experience regarding P2P. Please note that none of this should be taken as advise, seeing investments should be a personal strategy based on your own goals and multiple sources of information.
In the last few years we have used multiple platform and on most of them we earn money and some of them we lost money. Choosing the right platform for your strategy is crucial for minimizing risk and maximizing profit. In this guide, we compare four well-known P2P lending platforms (that we also tried out)—Bondora, Twino, Mintos, and Robocash—highlighting their pros and cons. Based on our personal experience, we also share which platform we continue to invest in today.
Peer to Peer Review Examples
Bondora
Bondora was the first platform we used. It a easy to use platform, it is rolled out in a lot of countries now and I know a lot of people that are using it personally (not investing, but to get loans).
Pros:
Go & Grow feature – A hassle-free, automated investment option with quick liquidity.
Simple user interface – Easy for beginners to start investing.
Long track record – Established in 2009, making it one of the oldest P2P platforms.
Cons:
Lower returns on Go & Grow – Capped at around 6.75% annually.
No buyback guarantee – Higher risk in case of borrower defaults.
Limited secondary market – Harder to exit investments compared to competitors.
Personal experience: Bondora is very excited to use, because of the secondary market (although it is more limited then it used to be). You can choose yourself how you want to invest, more hands on or not. Bondora is the only platform where we lost money on. The amount of returns were very high at that time, but a lot of loans defaulted and most of that money never returned.
Twino
Twino was the second platform we started using, around the beginning of 2018.
Pros:
Buyback and Payment Guarantee – Reduces the risk of borrower defaults.
Diversification across different loan types – Offers personal, business, and real estate loans.
User-friendly platform – Easy to navigate and set up automated investments.
Cons:
Lower liquidity – Cashing out investments can take time.
Geographical risks – Loans originate mainly from Eastern Europe, adding market-specific risks.
Returns are modest – Typically in the 8-10% range, which is lower than some competitors.
Personal experience: Twino is a very good platform, we were attracted to Twino because of the guarantees. Obviously the guarantees lowers your given returns, but it fitted perfectly to our strategy. In the years we used this platform we sometimes experience some cashdrag (unable to invest the money because no new loans are available), but that mostly only lasted for maximum a week or so.
After a few years we retracted our money from Twino, because we needed the money at that time. It would definitely be a platform I would consider investing in again in the future.
Mintos
Mintos was the third platform we started using. But it was never a succes for us.
Pros:
Largest P2P platform in Europe – High volume and strong marketplace for loans.
Diversification opportunities – Loans from multiple originators across various countries.
Buyback guarantee – Helps mitigate risks on many loans.
Cons:
Loan originator risk – If an originator fails, investors can lose money.
Complexity – The vast number of loan options can be overwhelming for beginners.
Regulatory challenges – Some originators have faced legal or financial troubles.
Personal experience: The platform is (in my opinion) a bit less user friendly than the others (or atleast at that time). We experiences immediately cashdrags. The returns were definitely good (around 12%) but in the last few years the returns declined rapidly to less than 7% in 2024.
Robocash
Robocash was the last platform we started using and also the only platform we are still using.
Pros:
Fully automated investing – Saves time and effort.
Short-term and long-term loans – Good flexibility for investors.
Strong (always) buyback guarantee – Minimizes default risk.
Consistently high returns – Often in the 10-12% range.
Cons:
Limited transparency – Less public information about financials compared to larger platforms.
Fewer customization options – Investors have less control over individual loan selection.
No secondary market – You must wait for loans to mature to access your funds.
Personal experience: Robocash really fits to our needs and strategy. We were looking for a high return and automated platform, without any hassle. The platform was very new at the time we started using it (we were within the first 1000 investors). Our returns have been between 10-11% per year, which is pretty good. We notice that percentages of the new loans are a bit declining, but less than other platform. The focus of the area they are investing in shifted more to Asia instead of Europe. There are no forex risks or charges, but this market could possibly offer different (more?) risk than Europe.
Which P2P Platform is the Best?
After years of experience with all the platforms, we have found Robocash to be the best option for us. The combination of high returns, a solid buyback guarantee, and a fully automated experience makes it ideal for passive income. We have other investments that takes more of our time, so not having to check at all is working perfectly for us.
While the other platforms have their own strengths, Robocash offers for us a better balance of risk and reward for our investment strategy.
Final Thoughts
Each P2P platform has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the best one for you depends on your risk tolerance and investment goals.
