Cooking Goulash outside on fire!
Cooking Goulash outside again!

Monthly Update February

February was finally a fairly sunny month, which we definitely missed in the last couple of months. We could even cook a few times outside. We prefer to cook traditional Hungarian dishes in a hexenkessel directly above the fire.

Financially it was not our best month because of some unexpected costs, which caused our savingsrate to be below 15%, which is much lower than our goal.

Current Financial Overview for our Barista Fire Journey

Income vs Budget (Barista Fire journey)
Current month vs Prior month

Every month we make a comparison between our plan (what should we have earned this month to reach our goals) compared to what we actually earned.

Our income increased this month based on the six-month average calculation. The majority of our income is coming from our rental properties. We are still busy with the renovation of our latest purchase. We hope that we can rent out the apartment in April, but it will most likely be in May.

Our other income comes from crypto, some cashback on a debit card and stake rewards. This counts for 20% of our income. We really focus on the generated income instead of the equity, because it allows us to easier calculate the status of our barista fire journey.

Crypto chaos: Lost around 5k in one month

In the last few weeks most of the coins lost a lot of their value. We own a little bit bitcoin, cronos and some stable coins. Unfortunately most of the profits we got in November disappeared this month. It just shows that crypto is not something for the average investor, because it can causes a lot of stress. Luckily we have these coins for multiple years and we are used to the ups and downs. Beside the majority of our investments are not in crypto.

Crypto trading: Taking a risk this month

Normally we don't really do any trading, because most of our trades have been terrible. But this month we decided to take a risk. Around 30% of our cryptos were in stable coins, which were put in Earn for 15% p.a. interest. Unfortunately that product expired this month. So we decided to take a risk and buy some extra cronos. Now let's wait and see if this trade will pan out.

Focus of the coming month

The next coming weeks will consist out of a lot of travelling and family gatherings (2 times Hungary) and 1 family weekend in the Netherlands to celebrate some birthdays. Besides all these great family parties we will try to spend more consciously, because we noticed that in the last year we were not mindful enough about our spending which causes us to overspend more, with getting the actual joy and happiness from it.
